I have no baby blue in my kitchen.
I want a baby blue kitchen table.

Actually, I want to first paint it red and then use a brush to paint it blue so it shows red through the brush strokes. I do have red in my kitchen area and can add blue of course but do you think this is a bad idea?? I want truth! and when I say truth I don't mean in the "Should I cut my hair into a bob and perm it?" "Yeah, totally Andee! That would look super cute on you!" sort of truth. I am serious... Am I just hoping it will be cute or does this actually sound doable and have a possibility of being good? If this IS an okay idea, how do I do it? Spray paint red, brush paint blue? Does the spray paint create enough of a primed surface?
I really wanted to do the baby girl bedroom in red and blue but red is supposedly not a good color for sleep energy and if I use too much baby blue it will look like a boys room. So maybe I am just trying to use this color combo and it's a bad idea ?!?!

I don't think it's a bad idea. It sounds fun!
ReplyDeleteChris says to go to Sherwin on Bluff and look at their walls. They apparently did a wall with yellow underneath and red on top. They use a thinning glaze with the top color to help the bottom show through. Also, when you're done you'll want to use a two-part polymer on top to give it a clear coat for easy cleaning and protection.
I love the idea of red and baby blue. I'm not a pro but I have refinished a few pieces. I would use a primer if you are going to spray paint. I'm not sure about how to paint on the blue. Maybe ask someone at the paint counter at home depot. Probably a really corse (sp?) brush. It might look nice to paint blue over the top and then rough sand it? And I love the idea of those colors in a girl's room! Red is one of the first colors babies can see and is very stimulating for them. I wouldn't worry about the blue being masculine, just make sure and have some girly blue accents. Long comment, sorry. You know how I am about decorating. :) Miss you guys!
ReplyDeletek. so i kinda did this over christmas and learned the hard way by trial and error. No spray paint. you need the stuff in the can and a bristle brush- no foam brushes here. I would suggest trying a primer tinted red- probably a darker red or brighter red (trial and error) paint it on thick and you WANT to see all those brush strokes. Then coat with your blue/turquoise enough to see brush strokes but not to much because you want the red to show through. I did a dark gray primer with a bright red over it and it was awesome. I think I get what your going for but you might want to try it on some scrap pieces of pine first. Good Luck. Huggie and I made Maile's bed yesterday.. the pottery barn farmhouse. Love it. Got to sand and paint today.
ReplyDeleteSounds like it would make a cute kitchen table! I say go for it and decorate around it!!! By the way I LOVE your family pictures what a beautiful family you have!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the red with a light aqua blue color...I don't think its a bad idea. In fact I totally wanted to Charly's room in red, aqua blue, yellow and brown...sounds kinda weird but I found material with those colors and it was adorable! I think it would be an awesome girl room!
